Our
History
.....In
the early seventies, members of St. Luke's United Church of Christ saw
a growing need in the community for a day care center where single parents
and working-class parents could leave their children while they worked.
The need for a safe and loving environment where children would be well
taken care of soon became a reality.
In 1973, St. Luke's United Church
of Christ, under the pastorate of Rev. Dennis Fredrickson and the St.
Luke's Consistory, chartered "St. Luke's Day Care Center." A
Day Care Board made up of the pastor of St. Luke's, church members, parents,
community members, and professional people was formed. The Day School
Board still oversees the operation of the Center.
The Center opened with fifteen children in 1973. Today, we have over 50
children enrolled. What started out 30 years ago as a program that basically
offered child care services, has now become an academic program offering
Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten classes for three, four and five year
olds.
